Battlefield 3 - Recon Class Empty Battlefield 3 - Recon Class

Post by Guest Thu Dec 15, 2011 3:50 am

Just a little guide in a way for anyone trying out recon or for anyone who uses it of things i find handy etc any comments etc on anything or feedback would be awesome cheers, Greig.

Weapon : I find the best weapons to use are the bolt action rifles,
Whilst the semi-auto rifles do give you a better fire rate there a bit
less accurate and less damaging compared to bolt action, Once you get
the Straight Pull Bolt at around 60 Kills with said Rifle you can reload
without having to come out of the scoped mode this is incredibly handy
when shooting at targets that are running as you want to get a quick
follow up shot. Most of the bolt action rifles are relatively the same i
prefer the M98B it does only have 5 in the clip and 1 in the chamber
but i feel its more accurate and does a bit more damage. The Bipod (30
Kills with said Rifle) is a good add-on until you get the Straight Pull
Bolt (60 Kills with said rifle) The Bipod is good for accuracy as there
is no need to hold your breath, It is quite glitchy though and sometimes
won't sit on some surfaces but that is the only downside it has. I Just unlocked the L96 and tbh it has nothing on the M98B, I've been told the L96 is more accurate but tbh the M98B has the stopping power and has the range so it blows it out the water.

Best
tip : Always keep moving to different points that you know well near
your area as in if a sniper is shooting you at the first floor of a
building move upstairs and slowly peek out a window so he doesn't have
time to quickly get a headshot on you, countless times i've managed to
get snipers who peek there heads out of the same area they've just been
shot at.

Try your best to put your spawn beacon in odd areas
where most people wont look, a lot of people will hear the spawn beacon
and instantly look for it, keeping it away from heavy combat areas is
the best idea, near objectives you want too keep but sort of hidden away
is the idea.

Equipment : The MAV is a great item to use and can easily turn the tide of a match but that is all dependent on wether your teammates look at there map or not, it is incredibly handy but at the same time you get hardly any points for using it, Handy but doesn't score you a lot of points. The SOFLAM i feel
is a bit useless as you need to be using it to get the full effect out
of it which leaves you too get shot and is incredibly easy to see from a
distance the only upside is you can get assists from people using
guided shells in tanks to get Jets etc but hardly anyone seems to have
them equipped never mind using them, I usually use the T-UGS (Motion
sensor) It is incredibly handy if your in buildings and you don't want
people knifing you in the back Sad

Death
: Try your best when running from different positions to not run out in
the open where people can easily pick you off, Nothings more annoying
than moving position to get another sniper then being picked off by a
Support gunner laying the middle of a road.

Distance : Can't say
much about getting people from a distance it's more practice than
anything else as it's all self judgement where you should aim above
there head if you want to get a headshot or even just a kill, Two shots
from a Bolt action Rifle will easily wipe out anyone, One if the person
is already damaged.

Change your Kit : Regularly i change the
different Accessories i have on my gun ie Changing to a 12x Scope with a
Straight Pull Bolt for matches with long distances (Operation
Firestorm), Then changing back to a 8x Scope for maps like Siene
Crossing where enemies are a lot closer.

Camoflauge : I never
normally change my camo cause i normally have Black Ops camo on but i
see a lot of people changing camo for certain maps like for Tehran
Highway using dark camo to blend into certain parts of the map.

Scope
: Your scope is the best friend and your worst enemy, Whenever you see
the scope of another sniper chances are he has seen you due to the glare
from your gun, always be aware of this even when aiming at people close
to you. If you want a better chance don't look down your scope when
enemies are close until you know they don't know your there then pick
them off when there most unsuspecting.

Dont fanny about : Don't
piss about looking for a headshot when you think you've got a good shot
at someone TAKE IT, Missing is better than being shot before he shoots
you, Only take your time if the target doesn't know you are there, Dont
just suspect the target hasn't seen you because you are relatively well
hidden. What a Face

Secondary
Weapon :I use the G18 as my secondary as it basically counts as a
little Machine gun you can pull out in bad situations, If you haven't
unlocked the G18 yet you can use any pistol but a one with a Tactical
Light would be good (Remember you can turn the light on and off with the
D-PAD)

Spotting : Spot every target you can whenever you can,
If you don't get the target you will still get 10 Points and it will
help the guys on the frontline get a position easier if they know where
someone is hiding at.

Leveling : If your not too great at sniping
to start with don't worry, Just switch to a PDW or a shotgun but stay
as recon to get your points up whilst still leveling your Recon to get
your new rifles and equipment, Everyone misses most of there shots as a
sniper on the start but once you get into it and get better at judging
bulletdrop and where to place shots it becomes a lot of fun especially
when in a squad of teammates where you can spot/kill enemies for them to
capture objectives.

Conquest : Just because you are a sniper
doesn't mean you shouldn't be capturing bases, after you make sure the
area around the objective is clear find a good area to sit where you can
see most of the objective whilst still capturing it (If you can't
capture an objective enemie(s) are in the area ie if there are two of
your teammates at an area and the objective isn't moving then there is
two enemies nearby so be careful). king

Aim
Ahead, Think Ahead, Kill Ahead : Most targets you will be shooting at
are gonna be running, Targets that are running sideways on you scope are
the hardest to get especially at range, Aim Ahead and slightly above
you may hit/get a headshot if you miss don't worry just quickly reload
and make another shot, A lot of the time you won't get a kill but if
you've spotted them someone will eventually get them and you will get a
Spot assist or a Kill Assist. Look at spots where you have seen snipers
before just incase another takes that spot, Most snipers go to spots
where others have been previously to them.

Discover new spots :
Always look around the map for spots to run too, Anywhere new with good
cover and a good view of an area are great especially when an enemy
doesn't expect you too be at that area as the element of surprise is
your best friend Twisted Evil

Glitchy
Areas : Some Areas on Maps are Glitchy and won't allow you too be shot,
There is one at B on top of the warehouses inbetween the
airconditioning units in Operation Firestorm, Most of these areas you'll
find because you have been shooting at someone and you can't hit them
no matter what you do but usually these places don't allow you too shoot either. scratch

All i can think of right now, Happy hunting Very Happy

(moved to BF3 specific category, stickied, love these mate, please do some more Very Happy )

Battlefield 3 - Recon Class Empty Re: Battlefield 3 - Recon Class

Great stuff Reaper - thanks Very Happy

I'd like to add a couple of points if I may...

The MAV is a great item to use and can easily turn the tide of a match

MAV is also a great help to any teammates using a mortar - Teamwork rules!

Try your best to put your spawn beacon in odd areas where most people wont look, a lot of people will hear the spawn beacon and instantly look for it

Alternatively - place it where it can be found and get a teammate to place a few claymores around it - works great for mortars too! - again, teamwork rules!

The SOFLAM i feel is a bit useless as you need to be using it to get the full effect out
of it which leaves you too get shot and is incredibly easy to see from a
distance

Once you place your SOFLAM you can access/operate it from anywhere on the map. If you work with a teammate who has a Javelin equipped between the two of you you can destroy any armour & aircraft on the battlefield. (aircraft flares etc do not affect the javelin!) Great for tanks & helicopters. Jets are a little too fast for this sometimes tho. - and once again, teamwork rules!

a lot of people changing camo for certain maps like for Tehran Highway using dark camo to blend into certain parts of the map.

Doh! Never thought of that! LOL

If your not too great at sniping to start with don't worry, Just switch to a PDW or a shotgun but stay
as recon to get your points up whilst still leveling your Recon to get your new rifles and equipment

Good advice - that's exactly what I did. I am a rubbish sniper so I used my PP-2000 to great effect to level up (especially in Team Deathmatch - lots of points, quickly!)

Look at spots where you have seen snipers before just incase another takes that spot, Most snipers go to spots where others have been previously to them.

And some snipers are too stupid to move after taking 2 or 3 shots or keep returning to their favourite spot. (A great way to get knife kills I find!! Muhahaha!)

Anyway - here's hoping I can get my Xbox sorted soon so I can actually try some of this out Haha!

I never have many squadmates using it unless its people im in a party with so they usually know where it is cause i've already told em, your teammates can find it using the map no matter where it is so that shouldn't be a problem.

Also when i wrote that the SOFLAM and Javelin were bugged so it was pretty useless but now it is worth using but am not a lover of it.

Whats up with your xbox like?

Battlefield 3 - Recon Class Empty Re: Battlefield 3 - Recon Class

Sorry - what I meant was... the spawn beacon gives a distinctive ping and the mortar shows on the mini map (even if unmanned!) so they can become targets by the enemy. Use this fact to suck the enemy into a trap - a field of claymores!

My Xbox has decided not to read disks anymore...it is now taking 12hrs or so to get a game loaded - and requires extreme dedication from me to sit ejecting the disk tray all day until it finally decides to read it! Arrrgghhhh!

Yeah good point but if the enemy see's your claymores and shoot em it could blow up the spawn beacon but im positive you can get another one aswell as the mav etc with a support ammo box, I think.

Mines started doing that for a wee while wouldn't play discs then after an hour i turn it on n it worked fine, seems arright now, Maybe the lens is covered in shit? Dust etc?

LOL - in my experience very few people notice claymores, especially if strategically placed, most especially are BF2 & BF2BC2 vets...they are just not used to dealing with them. My favourite spot is the curving alley in Bazaar...so many people just run past the crates/stalls etc. BIG-BADDA-BOOM!!
